NEWSLETTERS GIVE YOU SOMETHING
SOCIAL MEDIA DOESN'T
Newsletters are a direct connection with the people who want to hear from you. It’s an opportunity to regularly share your ideas, updates and stories in a more personal way — but knowing what to write about, finding the time to write it, and keeping the ideas flowing month after month can be a challenge.

A clear purpose or reason for being read
A strong story or idea
A voice people recognise
Content your audience cares about
Structure that suits your audience
A reason to take the next step
A CLEAR PURPOSE
Not sure what your newsletter is trying to say?
Every newsletter should have a job to do — whether that’s keeping clients informed, sharing knowledge, building relationships or inspiring action.
A STRONG STORY
Have an idea but don’t know how to turn it into a newsletter?
The best newsletters entice you with something worth opening. A useful tip, an interesting insight or a story that helps them connect with your business.
YOUR VOICE
Your newsletter doesn’t sound like you?
Your newsletter should sound like a conversation with you, not a generic update that could come from anyone.
RELEVANCE
Running out of things to write about?
The most effective newsletters focus on what your readers want to know, not just what you want to share.
STRUCTURE
There’s no one-size-fits-all approach to newsletters.
What works for a travel business may look very different from what works for a professional service, creative business, or community organisation.
THE NEXT STEP
Ah, the Call To Action!
Every newsletter should make it easy for readers to know what to do next, whether that’s booking, enquiring, reading more or simply staying connected.

Most audiences respond well to a consistent schedule, such as weekly, fortnightly, or monthly. Choose a rhythm you can sustain and clearly set expectations with your readers from the start.
Aim for a clear main story, 1–3 supporting pieces (tips, resources, or updates), and a single focused call to action. Keep it valuable, scannable, and aligned with your audience’s interests.
There is no perfect length, but shorter, focused emails generally perform better. Start with 400–800 words, use clear subheadings and bullet points, and test what your audience engages with most.
Create a simple voice guide with a few adjectives that describe how you want to sound, keep a running list of phrases you love (and avoid), and read each issue out loud to check it still sounds like you.
A good subject line is clear, specific, and honest. Speak directly to a benefit, use your reader’s language, and avoid clickbait. Testing a few styles over time will show you what resonates.
Send consistently, write clear subject lines, focus each issue around one main idea, and make your call to action easy to see and act on. Review your analytics regularly and adjust based on what readers actually click.
If you want clearer strategy, stronger stories, or a more consistent newsletter, get in touch to talk through what you need.
